Public Transport
Explore without a car
You might not want to use your car while you’re staying with us, especially if you have a motorhome or campervan, so here’s some info about local public transport…
Our nearest bus stop is in Ashbourne. You can walk from the site along the Tissington Trail, it takes about 25 minutes. Services from there include:
Ashbourne – Matlock 110 & 111 timetable (111 calls at Carsington Water Visitor Centre)
connecting services to Bakewell (via the 172 or Transpeak TP3) & Chatsworth from Matlock
Ashbourne – Buxton 442 timetable (calls at Tissington & Hartington)
This service goes past the end of our drive on the main road and can be flagged down
Ashbourne – Derby Swift timetable (Also goes Ashbourne – Uttoxeter)
(Our nearest train stations are Derby & Uttoxeter)
Ashbourne – Alton Towers X52 timetable
This service only operates Monday to Friday April to August plus October Scarefest dates and there is only one service a day. Some Wednesdays are excluded. Please see the Notts + Derby website for further info.
Derbyshire Connect Ashbourne & Wirksworth
A very useful service is the Derbyshire Connect bookable bus. There’s no fixed timetable so pick up times, routes and destinations (within the covered area) can be chosen by you. The service is wheelchair friendly and you can also take bikes, buggies and dogs. You’ll need to book in advance. Booking info available here – (you’ll need to make sure you’re in the Ashbourne & Wirksworth section).
Peak Sightseer Open Top Bus
This brand new bus service travels in a loop from Bakewell including stops at Chatsworth House, Calver for great walks and Hassop Station for the Monsal Trail. Your ticket enables you to hop on and hop off all day so you can really explore the Peak District. Sit on the open top deck and get a totally different perspective of the countryside. Catch the bus from Ashbourne to Matlock (see above) and then take the Transpeak or Sixes 6.1 to Bakewell, or the 160 service to Chatsworth, to connect.
