Cycling is a great way to explore the park and the surrounding Derbyshire & Staffordshire countryside. Bring your own bikes with you or hire them from a nearby centre.
From the site you have direct access to the traffic free Tissington Trail cycle route on which you can cycle the 13 miles to Parsley Hay joining the High Peak Trail if you choose. You can also cycle into Ashbourne along the Tissington Trail which takes about 15 minutes.
Bikes are available to hire from the Ashbourne Bike Hire Centre approx. 15 mins walk away along the Tissington Trail. Further information on their website here www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/cycle/bike-hire-centres/ashbourne
If you'd prefer to make life a bit easier by hiring an electric bike, local company eBike Escapes will deliver bikes to your pitch or holiday cottage and collect them at the end of your stay. If you book through this link you'll receive a 10% discount: Book here
There are several other cycle trails in the area including the scenic Manifold Trail and a circular route around Carsington Water (click link then select Carsington Loop tab along the top).
The Churnet Valley cycle route runs for 4 1/2 miles from Denstone to Oakamoor and is perfect for families. It’s nice and flat as it runs along the old railway track. It’s also really close to Alton Towers so why not pay a visit there after you’ve dropped your teenagers off for the day?
A little further afield – about 35 minutes drive, yet well worth a visit & highly recommended by us, is the Monsal Trail. It follows the route of the former Midland Railway 8.5 miles through stunning scenery from Bakewell to Blackwell Mill Cottages not far from Buxton.
