Part of Buxton Hill in Ashbourne will be closed between 7pm & midnight from 22nd – 26th August 2011 inclusive.

This may affect your journey if you are arriving between these dates or if you wish to visit Ashbourne in the evening during your stay.

Cars & Campervans
The easiest route to take is available by clicking here. It is quite a narrow road in places and is not suitable for caravans or large motorhomes.

Remember if you arrive before 7pm then you should have no problems as the road will still be open.

If you need any further information give us a call on 01335 344020 between 10am – 6pm. If you wish to go into Ashbourne in the evening during your stay pop into reception ask a member of our reception staff for directions.

Lots of our guests like walking but Adrian & Candace and Henry & Pete are walking just a little bit further than most! Joining us during their walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats, both are raising money for charity.

Pete and his four legged friend Henry will be the first to arrive on 17th July. They’re doing the marathon walk to raise funds for Hounds For Heroes, a new charity which will provide assistance dogs to forces and emergency service personnel.

Have you ever forgotten your tent poles or found that one’s broken when you arrived at your campsite?

Isn’t it annoying?

The new Vango Airbeam tents caused quite a stir at the Boat & Caravan Show this year. The tents have inflatable beams instead of poles and can be put up and taken down within minutes.

The larger sizes accommodate a family easily. The bedrooms are already in place inside the tent and there’s plenty of headroom.

With prices comparable to ordinary family tents, and much cheaper than Karsten inflatable tents, seems like a great idea to us! What do you think? Will we be seeing lots of these pitching up at Callow Top Holiday Park this year?

Callow Top Voted In At Number 25

The results of the Practical Caravan Top 100 Sites 2011 were announced yesterday at a presentation held at the Hilton Hotel at the NEC in Birmingham.

Over 11,000 votes were cast and we’re thrilled that Callow Top has been voted in at number 25, a jump up of 22 places since last year and one of the highest placed larger parks (100+ pitches.)

As the awards are voted for by guests who have paid to stay at the park, not judges from the industry, it’s people just like you that decide who gets a vote. You can be assured that, as a Top 100 Site, we’ve got a high standard of facilities & service to make your stay at Callow Top the best it possibly could be.

Alton Towers Live

We’ve just heard, that JLS will be playing at Alton Towers on Sunday 19th June 2011. The band will be playing as part of this year’s ‘Alton Towers Live’ event.
JLS will be supported by McFly, The Saturdays and Eliza Doolittle.

Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Friday 18th February at www.altontowers.com and we’re sure they sell out pretty fast! The cost will be £55 per person (plus booking fee) and will include entry to Alton Towers, Alton Towers Live and parking charges.

You can enjoy a whole day on the rides followed by an evening of live music starting at 4.30pm.

When it snowed it really snowed!

At the end of 2010 we were deluged with nearly 2ft of snow and temperatures reached -15. The campsite and holiday park looked beautiful covered in a glistening white blanket but nothing could get up and down the drive except 4×4s. We had to walk up and down the drive to and from work for several days!

Bonfire Bonanza!

We’re sure everyone will agree that this year’s fireworks were a huge success. The display was spectacular and we all enjoyed the BBQ and disco afterwards. A great big thank you to all our guests and staff for making it so enjoyable.

Spoooooky

A brilliant time was had by staff and guests at our Calloween Halloween weekend. Everyone got involved and, as well as getting dressed up in some amazing costumes, caravans and tents were decorated too. There was prizes for the best fancy dress for both adults and children & lots of fun at the spooky Halloween Disco.

We attended the East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards, held at The Roundhouse in Derby, last night. Shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Caravan Park & Holiday Village Category, we were very pleased to be presented with a Bronze award.
The awards recognise the very best tourism businesses from across the region’s five counties. Pictured above are Chris Patterson & Eli Taylor (bottom row, 2nd & 3rd from left) along with all the other winners from Derbyshire.

Callow Top has been awarded a Gold David Bellamy conservation award for the second year running. The award demonstrates our continued care for the environment. This year improvements include expanded recycling facilities and the installation of bat, owl and bird boxes in our nature reserve.

A fun day was had by kids and adults alike with races from skipping to the egg and spoon. All races were closely contested with bottles of wine and chocolate bars up for grabs. A big thank you to all the competetors and the dedicated team of sports day staff. Sure to return for next year.

Callow Top on TV & Radio

There was great excitement on Friday 20th August when we were visited by both BBC Radio Derby in the morning and the BBC East Midlands Today outside broadcast team in the afternoon. The local news teams were reporting on the big increase in people staying at home for their holidays instead of going abroad- ‘Staycations.’

Radio Derby also reported on the continued success of Callow Top and our award winning 12 months. A Practical Caravan Top 100 Site, Practical Motorhome Top 50 site, with a David Bellamy Gold Award and East Midlands Enjoy England Excellence Awards Caravan Park of the Year we’re definitely on a winning streak. Our guests can be assured that the facilities and service they receive during their stay are first class.

Callow Top staff, headed by Adam Swindell, helped to co-ordinate the outside broadcast which was live on the 6.30pm edition of BBC East Midlands Today. Our site owner, Alan Palmer, and the Evans Family who were holidaying with us were both interviewed by Mike O’Sullivan.

The Evans Family made a suprise debut appearance on the telly during their second stay with us this year! They told Mike O’Sullivan, the BBC East Midlands Today reporter, that they had decided to stay in the UK for their holidays because flying abroad with young children is just too much hassle.

We’re very pleased to have been voted into the Practical Motorhome magazine Top 50 sites for the first time this year. The awards are voted for by readers of Practical Motorhome both online and by post.

Water supply off between the following hours

We have been advised by Severn Trent Water today that, as a result of improvement works on the mains water supply in this area, our water supply will be interupted as follows:

Wed 30th June           9pm – 6am
Thu 1st July                 9pm – 6am
Mon 5th July               9pm – 6am
Tue 6th July                 9pm – 6am

If you are staying with us during this time please make sure you have filled your water containers and used our washing facilities before this time. During the work period you may experience discoloured water through the taps.

After the work is complete there may be a change in the appearance of the water
Milky appearance – no action required and the water is safe to drink.
Discolouration (other than milky) – although the water may seem unappealing it poses no risk to health and is safe. Allow the cold water tap to run at a gentle flow until the water clears.

Do Not use the washing machines until you are sure that the wtare is clear to prevent the potential for stained laundry.
